At midnight, Tony Pierce soared like an eagle into heaven while his family was singing "Amazing Grace" at his bedside.
Tony is survived by his loving wife of more than 50 years, Nancy Sanderson Pierce; two sons, Joey Pierce (Laurie) of Huntsville, Alabama, and Jeff Pierce (Sharolette) of Paducah, Kentucky; two sisters, Pat Harper (Jim) and Elaine Crenshaw (Ricky); seven grandchildren, Dena, Gabby, Lindsay, Jordan, Donnie, Brock, and Mallory; and two great-grandchildren, Zoey and Kaiden; and many loving in-laws, cousins, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Mildred of Paducah, Kentucky.
Tony proudly served four years in the United States Navy aboard the USS Yorktown CVS-10 "Fighting Lady" where he was a ship fitter. He served two tours in Vietnam and participated in the NASA Apollo 8 recovery mission. The remaining 24 years he served honorably in the United States Army Reserves as a tank commander and drill instructor. He was employed for over 40 years by Westvaco in Wickliffe, Kentucky, where he developed many amazing friendships. He was also commissioned as a Kentucky Colonel.
Tony was a Christian and member of Lone Oak Church of Christ. He loved spending time with his family and enjoyed golf, fishing, racing and home construction projects.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 12, 2017, at Milner & Orr Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Paducah with Mr. Paul Wingfield officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at Mt. Carmel Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. Saturday, March 11, 2017, at the funeral home.
