John Boyd Martin

GRAND RIVERS -- John Boyd Martin, 79, of Grand Rivers, Kentucky, passed away Sunday, March 5, 2017, at Ray and Kay Eckstein Hospice Care Center in Paducah, Kentucky.

Born Sunday, July 25, 1937, in Lyon County, Kentucky, he was the son of the late John T. Martin and the late Barbara (Sanders) Martin. He was the husband of the late Carolyn Martin, who passed away in 2002.

He was a member of the Teamsters union, driving for Matlack Incorporated until his retirement. He honorably served his country in the United States Navy and was a member of Pisgah United Methodist Church.

Surviving are his daughters, Sandy (Steve) Stovall of Kuttawa, Kentucky, and Elaine (Jennifer Glaab) McDowell of Knoxville, Tennessee; brother, George (Martha) Martin of Eddyville, Kentucky; sister, Grace (Billy) Turner of Cerulean, Kentucky; sister-in-law, Deloris Martin of Grand Rivers, Kentucky; four grandchildren, Tim Walker, James Austin McDowell, Cody McDowell and Jessica McDowell; and five great-grandchildren, Hadleigh Huff, Gabriel McDowell, Tyler Walker, Autumn Walker and Bristol Walker.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; one brother, Charles Robert "Charlie Bob" Martin; one sister; and brother-in-law, Marjane (Bill) Fowler.

Services will be held Thursday, March 9, 2017, at 1 p.m. in the chapel of Collier Funeral Home, Benton, Kentucky. The Rev. Jerald White will officiate. Interment will follow the services in the Dixon Cemetery, Grand Rivers, Kentucky. The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, March 8, 2017, at Collier Funeral Home, 211 West Fifth, Benton, KY.

Masonic rites will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 8, 2017, in the chapel of Collier Funeral Home.

The family asks that memorial contributions be make to the Gideons International.
