Reidland area homes burglarized

Staff report

The McCracken County Sheriff's Department is investigating two residential burglaries in the same Reidland area late Monday and early Tuesday.

Homes on StoneCreek Place and StonePoint Court were burglarized overnight while the residents were sleeping. The residents did not awaken, and didn't discover them until later Tuesday. No forced entry was noted on either home, Sheriff Jon Hayden said in a news release.

A vehicle on Larkspur Lane was broken into during the same period, with a purse taken, he added.

Wallets, a laptop computer and a television were taken during the home burglaries. The sheriff's detectives working the cases believe that the three crimes are connected and occurred within a close time period. Hayden said the department rarely sees residential burglaries occur while the homeowners are at home, as thieves prefer to avoid confrontation.

"This type of crime is probably about as dangerous for the thief as any crime (he or she) could commit," he said.

The department has placed surveillance cameras in the area and will be providing extra patrols in marked and unmarked vehicles, he said. Anyone with information can contact the sheriff's department at 270-444-4719.
