New downtown hotel plans job fair

LinGate Hospitality, the developer of the Holiday Inn Paducah Riverfront hotel, will hold a job fair next week as preparations continue for an early July opening.

The job fair will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday and Tuesday at the Kentucky Career Center, 416 S. 6th Street. The career center staff will assist job fair participants with the application process, said Julie Copeland, workforce development specialist.

LinGate has already been hiring staff and managers from the local workforce and is looking to fill a wide variety of positions, according to Rhonda Hausman, the hotel's general manager.

"We're truly pleased with the hourly staff, as well as managers, we've been able to hire," Hausman said.

Having the culinary program at West Kentucky Community and Technical College to draw from has been particularly helpful, she said.

Open positions for those attending the job fair include cooks, dishwashers, front of the house restaurant supervisor, servers, bartenders, housekeepers, laundry attendants, rooms inspector, houseman, guest service representatives, night auditor, restaurant host/hostess and engineer (maintenance).

Those attending the job fair should bring a resume. Both full- and part-time positions are available.

The 123-room hotel will include a Burger Theory restaurant, with seating for 120 including indoor and bar area seats plus 28 outdoor/patio dining seats.

According to Claude Bacon, LinGate vice president-administration, the hotel is expected to open in early July. There have been some delays, which he described as "typical on new construction with the different items to navigate through."

Bacon praised the cooperation LinGate has received from the city, county and convention center staff throughout the process.

"LinGate Hospitality as a whole is very excited to be part of this Paducah-McCracken County downtown renaissance," Bacon said. "This hotel is just the beginning of the great things to come. The people of Paducah and McCracken County have made this a great process for us."
