As one of four science marches planned in Kentucky on Earth Day, the Paducah March for Science is set for Saturday.
Paducah Progressive Action invites western Kentuckians to join hundreds of thousands nationwide to show support for science and the funding of scientific research in the face of budget cuts and threats to dismantle related government agencies. It's inspired by the planned March for Science in Washington, D.C., which has inspired 400 other marches worldwide.
The 13-block march will begin at 2 p.m. at Fountain Avenue and Broadway, ending at Dolly McNutt Plaza around 3 p.m. between City Hall and the County Courthouse.
Marchers will fill both sidewalks on Broadway to avoid blocking traffic. Anyone unable to walk the entire route is invited to join the crowd at Dolly McNutt.
